Boat Ceramic Coatings

Boat ceramic coatings are liquid nano-polymers that chemically bond with gelcoat and marine paint to form a hardened, hydrophobic barrier. They protect vessels against UV-induced oxidation, saltwater corrosion, and environmental staining, making routine washes dramatically faster and lasting between 1 to 5 years.

Our Process

Applying a ceramic coating to a boat protects the gel coat or paint from UV rays, salt corrosion, and staining. The process requires five main steps: washing, decontaminating, polishing/buffing, performing a panel wipe, and hand-applying the ceramic liquid in small sections.

1. Wash and Decontaminate: Thoroughly wash the vessel using a non-wax marine soap to remove dirt, grease, and salt. Next, use an iron-remover spray and a clay bar to strip embedded contaminants and old wax from the pores of the gel coat.

2. Paint and Gel Coat Correction: To maximize gloss and longevity, you must remove oxidation, scratches, and dullness. Use a marine compound or polish with a buffer to fully restore the surface before coating.

3. Surface Prep (Panel Wipe): Any remaining polishing oils or residues will prevent the ceramic coating from bonding. Use a 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipe or a specialized surface prep spray to wipe down the hull and topside, ensuring a completely sterile surface.

4. Application: Wrap a suede microfiber cloth around an applicator block. Apply a few drops of marine-grade ceramic coating and work in overlapping, “crosshatch” motions (up-and-down, then left-to-right) on a 2 ft × 2 ft section.

5. Leveling and Curing: Wait roughly 1–3 minutes (depending on the temperature/humidity) until the product begins to flash or “rainbow.” Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to lightly buff away the excess until the surface is clear and glossy. Repeat the process, applying a second coat if recommended by the manufacturer.

6. Curing and Aftercare: Keep the boat in a dry area away from direct water and rain for at least 24 to 48 hours to allow the coating to fully harden. Avoid using harsh soaps or washing the boat for at least 5 to 7 days after application.

FAQ

How long does ceramic coating actually last

Typically 18–24 months on gelcoat, depending on storage and maintenance. Interior areas last longer.

It drastically slows oxidation but doesn’t stop it forever. Proper maintenance still matters.

No. It defeats the purpose and interferes with the hydrophobic effect.
