Paint Correction

Professional aircraft paint correction designed to restore gloss, remove surface defects, and refine painted surfaces without unnecessary material removal. Aircraft paint systems require controlled correction methods — not aggressive automotive compounding.

Benefits

Serving private aircraft owners, charter operators, corporate flight departments, FBOs, and aviation facilities throughout Florida.

New Paint Correction (aviation)

Our Process

Aviation paint correction safely removes the top oxidized or microscopically scratched layer of aircraft paint without compromising its thickness. The process requires strict techniques for aviation-grade surfaces and typically involves three primary stages: decontamination, machine polishing, and protection.

1. Decontamination and Surface Prep:

Before machine polishing, the aircraft must be thoroughly washed to remove exhaust soot, hydraulic fluid, bugs, and other aviation-specific debris.

  • Chemical Decontamination: Apply iron fallout removers to dissolve metallic debris embedded in the paint.
  • Clay Bar: Use an automotive detailing clay bar with a lubricant spray to lift away bonded surface contaminants.
  • Masking: Tape off sensitive areas like rivets, seams, and decals to prevent polish or compound from getting stuck in them.
  •
2. Multi-Stage Paint Correction

Unlike automotive clear coats, aviation single-stage paint (or thin clear coats) requires careful, controlled use of rotary or dual-action polishers.

  • Test Spot: Always begin with the least aggressive pad and compound combination on a small, inconspicuous area to see if it removes oxidation without causing haze or holograms.
  • Cutting/Compounding: Use a wool or heavy microfiber pad with an abrasive compound to level out surface defects and remove the chalky, oxidized top layer of paint.
  • Cutting/Compounding: Use a wool or heavy microfiber pad with an abrasive compound to level out surface defects and remove the chalky, oxidized top layer of paint.
  • Polishing/Refinement: Switch to a softer foam pad and a finishing polish to remove micro-scratches left by the heavy compound and restore deep gloss.
  • Leading Edge Wet Sanding (If Necessary): For severely damaged or faded leading edges, professionals sometimes wet sand with 2000-grit sandpaper and water before buffing.
3. Panel Wipe and Surface Protection

After polishing, polishing oils and residues remain on the paint, which must be removed before sealing the finish.

  • Panel Wipe: Use a strong isopropyl alcohol or specialized paint prep spray to completely strip the surface of oils.
  • Ceramic Coating or Sealant: Apply an aviation-grade ceramic coating or polymer sealant. This provides a hydrophobic layer that protects the paint from future UV fading, exhaust stains, and makes future washing easier.yhgtCeramic
